How my wife saved me from Corona (Part 16)
A message from Dr. Ziv Simon
April 8, 2020
Hi there,
I hope you had a good start this week. There are new regulations for civilians to always wear masks outside.
I'm amazed that not all do and I can see how social etiquette is starting to change. It's possible that at one point, we will look at someone who is sitting next to us without as if they were a smoker, and move (no offense to smokers, I just care about my lungs too much).
I just came back from grocery shopping with my wife. A unique experience.
She was like a Formula 1 race car driver, navigating the aisles with elegance, and determination, getting the needed groceries and avoiding people without masks and people in general.
Flawless.
It felt like a human PAC-MAN game. I think we won...
I forgot to mention that we both gloved-in for this procedure.
My credit card was ready, outside the wallet, in my pocket. When it came to check out, I took off one glove, reached out for the card, inserted the chip and punched in my code with the gloved hand.
Groceries into the car.
Gloves off.
Hand sanitizer and drive home.
Then starts the second part of grocery shopping - Disinfection.
My wife created dirty and clean areas and again with immense conviction she guided me through the system she created.
Disinfecting the groceries until they were safe and ready to be stored. I took mental notes because I'm working on creating systems for my practice that would apply for deliveries.
Yes. Corona is that infective and we must do our due diligence.
There is no need for panic.
There is a need for systems. New ones.
Our reality has changed and we need to adapt. Grocery shopping is not a fun experience any more. It's time consuming and we all must act like army sergeants in disinfecting things that come into our homes.
I'm lucky that my wife assumed this responsibility and is so vigilant about it. No medical training, mind you.
Only YouTube, common sense and a strong stand against the risk of Corona infection.
Are these systems 100% safe? Probably not but we need to keep improving them.
We want to eliminate any shadow of a doubt that we didn't do everything we could.
So work with your spouse or partner on these types of systems at home.
How you do one thing is how you do everything.
We should treat our practices the same way and I'm going to share the new protocols I'm creating for that.
Your practice can be sterile but even one contaminated package or letter can change that. The person who touches the contaminated item, touches the light switches, the computer keyboard and everybody gets it.
It's all about awareness.
Did I already tell you that reality has changed?
More is coming in the next emails and I'll share this when I have the information.
Oh, and how did she save me from Corona....
She did it even before we knew what Corona was.
She bought me a Peloton stationary bike about a year ago. Something I resisted buying for several reasons. I didn't want to be locked in the house for exercise and I didn't like the price tag.
She insisted and saved my life now during the Corona outbreak. It is now my only source of cardio fitness. I ride this bike every day.
Looks like gyms are not coming back any time soon so we all must adapt.
If I get enough emails about my simple workout routine, I'll share the details with you. Fitness is the key now and always.
Start creating systems to keep you, your family, your staff and your patients safe and I will keep sharing best practices.
Stay strong!
Ziv.
