What do you eat at this time? (Part 6)
A message from Dr. Ziv Simon
March 23, 2020
Hello friend,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits.
What you need mostly at this time is the right mindset and energy.
What you eat can make you hyper and excitable, make you feel sluggish or even make you feel down and depressed.
Lots of dentists asked me about my own physical "input" (food) I wrote about last week. Basically: "Ziv, what are you eating during this time? What's your daily routine and your physical fitness?"
Right now, there are fun food themes at home like Taco night and chocolate fondues (see the photos at the end).
I personally haven't changed anything in my own diet. Like I told you, I consider what I consume the "input" that will allow me to stay fit and strong physically. That in turn allows a good "burn" (workout) and then reaping the benefits.
In the past I tried everything.
I experimented with Keto, vegan, low in this and low in that. I wanted to find out what works best (regardless of the current Corona outbreak).
In my Keto plan, I ate so much fat that I could probably slide barefoot in an incline because of all of that grease in my system. In my vegan diet, besides being hungry all day long, I had so much beans that my family politely asked me to move out...
So right now I keep it simple:
Minimal sugar and fat, minimal dairy and moderate on the salt. Coffee X 2 a day with soy or oat milk creamer.
The rest, totally normal food with my family.
If you feel like munching and find yourself reaching out to cookies and other snacks. Get rid of the guilt.
Guilt about eating bad things is self-abuse. You are normal. Our body wants that type of food in times of great stress.
So relax and don't worry too much about over-indulging.
You may need to increase your "burn" and make it up the next couple of days. When my wife announced the chocolate fondue I was all in and the only thing I burned was my tongue like all my kids.
My work out routine is: First thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Nowadays, I cycle at home but normally I would go the gym.
Corona killed all gyms and only for that Corona must be annihilated.
Here's another routine: I don't even eat anything before my cardio workout. Not even a banana or an apple. If you do, you'll burn this food item and not what needs burning.
Tons of water and start your "burn".
You don't have to do 50 minutes of high intensity interval training. Just 20 minutes. You must sweat at least a little.
You must do this every single day.
Again, if you skip, no self-hatred allowed. You'll pick it up the next day. If you go for more than 2 days with no physical activity, let me know. I got some great hacks for you.
Waking up before the enemy...
Waking up early and getting your work out done is excellent for your mindset.
It's the first victory of the day. It's your first win and winning feels amazing.
It also makes you feel like you have a competitive edge. You did something great while everybody else is still sleeping. You're ahed.
I studied the most successful people in history. 3 things that immediately come to mind: well-read, have routines and wake up early.
Now in Corona time, we need all the help we can get.
The right food, exercise and focus.
I'll share more things about my routines and habits in the future if you'd like. Things that helped me overcome challenges and adversities.
If you don't have a routine and your habits need some work, I got some good news for you: The impact you will have after a small change will feel huge.
We are going live again this Thursday. This "Dentists Vs. Corona" broadcast will also include a segment about esthetic crown lengthening. We will all "Skill-Up!" together.
In the meanwhile, rest your body and mind.
Tomorrow is another day and you'll tackle the challenges that come your way like a champ.
You are calmer, more focused and more confident than your mind is telling you.
Stay strong!
Ziv.
PS
Here some food events from this past week at home- Taco night and fondue.
Kids are caged. They go crazy sometimes and it's hard to tame them.
We just took a drive by a friend's house to wish happy birthday from the distance. The kids were out for the first time in 10 days. Just driving and seeing that there is a world outside their 4 walls, made them happy. Then they just wanted to go back to their cage.
On the weekend I'm taking them to the beach. Just a drive by.Sunday is supposed to be a great day.
Good night, my friend...
Tomorrow we go at it again!
